Baby Formula Health Concerns

Lawsuits around the United States claim that the manufacturers of baby formula brands Enfamil and Similac knowingly didn’t disclose that their formula made from cow’s milk may be toxic for newborn infants – specifically premature babies.

Table Of Contents

Evidence shows that premature infants make up 90% of the babies who develop severe gastrointestinal disease Necrotizing Enterocolitis, or NEC, after consuming some formulas marketed and sold to American families and healthcare providers.

Premature infants are typically fed formula at home and at the hospital to support their still-developing bodies and aid in weight gain. Unfortunately, what’s supposed to support their development may be causing them great harm. If your baby was fed Similac or Enfamil formula and later diagnosed with NEC, you may be entitled to compensation from Abbott Laboratories or Mead Johnson and should consult with an attorney right away. The Baby Formula Lawsuit attorneys at Grimes Teich Anderson are here for you and your family in these incredibly challenging times. Contact us today by calling (800) 533-6845 or by submitting a case evaluation form online.

Awesome firm! Chris Connolly took time to listen and review our situation. He was very honest and upfront about the process and potential outcomes. My daughter’s case has some complexities and Chris explained every detail and possibility. Bottom line, he fought for us and won!!! I would rate them 10 stars if possible.

Needing an attorney was never something I wanted to need, but I did and thanks to Anna H. and Katie G. it was not so overwhelming. Having to deal with a legal issue and having a trusted attorney is key. I had no idea what to expect during the duration of the time I needed legal representation but Anna and Katie not only keep me well informed but also explained things to me in a way that made sense. If you happen to find yourself in need of legal representation I highly recommend them.

What is Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC)?
Necrotizing Enterocolitis is a severe and potentially deadly gastrointestinal condition that causes intestinal tissue death and inflammation that may cause holes in the intestine. In addition, bacteria from the intestine could leak into the abdomen or blood, causing severe illness or potentially fatal blood infection. NEC usually develops suddenly within two to six weeks after birth, and up to 50% of these cases in premature newborns could be fatal.

Signs and Symptoms of Necrotizing Enterocolitis

Symptoms of Necrotizing Enterocolitis, or NEC, include:

  • Abdominal pain and swelling
  • Changes in heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, and breathing
  • Diarrhea with bloody stool
  • Green or yellow vomit
  • Lethargy
  • Refusing to eat and lack of weight gain

If your baby is exhibiting these symptoms after formula feeding, seek medical help immediately and consult with an experienced NEC attorney at Grimes Teich Anderson. Our knowledgeable baby formula lawsuit attorneys will thoroughly examine the situation and ensure that your family gets the answers and justice you deserve.
