Grimes Teich Anderson and Attorney Henry E. Teich named to Best Law Firm® and Best Lawyer® Lists
U.S. News and World Report and Best Lawyers® has announced that Grimes Teich Anderson is listed in its 2017 edition of Best Law Firms.  The firm earns its Tier 1 metropolitan ranking for Workers' Compensation Law - Claimants.  In addition, Henry Teich is listed in the 2017 edition of Best Lawyers in America® for Workers' Compensation Law - Claimants.  It is the second year he has received this designation which represents the top 4 percent of lawyers in the U.S.  

In its announcement, U.S. News and World Report and Best Lawyers writes, "Receiving a tier 1 designation reflects the high level of respect a firm has earned among other leading lawyers and clients in the same communities and the same practice areas for its abilities, its professionalism, and its integrity."

Henry has been a North Carolina Board Certified Workers' Compensation Specialist since 2000.

Jessica Leaven Selected to Legal Elite
Jessica Leaven has been selected to Business North Carolina's Legal Elite for 2017 in the category of Employment Law.  Fewer than 3% of the attorneys in North Carolina were selected by fellow lawyers across the state as tops in their field.  Jessica is a partner at Grimes Teich Anderson where her practice focuses on employment law, including discrimination, harassment, and wrongful termination, and workers' compensation, on behalf of employees.

Henry Teich, Jessica Leaven, and Tod Leaven Recognized By Super Lawyers®
Henry Teich and Jessica Leaven have been selected for inclusion in the 2017 list for North Carolina Super Lawyers.  Tod Leaven has been selected for inclusion in the North Carolina Super Lawyers Rising Stars list for 2017 for Military and Veterans Law.

Super Lawyers is a rating service of outstanding attorneys from more than 70 practice areas who are evaluated on 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement.  The selection process for Rising Stars is the same with one exception.  Attorneys selected to be on the Rising Stars list must be either 40 years of age or younger or in practice for 10 years or less.

It is Henry's 7th year to be included on the list.  He is a North Carolina Board Certified Workers Compensation Specialist.  Before her selection to the list for 2017, Jessica was included for 5 years on the Rising Stars list.

Jessica E. Leaven Appointed Chair of NC Bar Association Section

Grimes Teich Anderson attorney Jessica E. Leaven has been appointed Chair of the North Carolina Bar Association's Labor and Employment Section for 2016-2017.  Jessica was Vice-Chair of the Section and Co-Chair of the Continuing Legal Education Committee in 2015-2016.

Jessica is dedicated to protecting the rights of employees who have been the victims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation and wrongful termination and she fights employers who violate the Family and Medical Leave Act, wage and hour laws and whistleblower laws.  Jessica represents employees with breach of contract claims and employment contract disputes.  She also assists professionals in such areas as reviews of employment contracts and severance compensation packages.

Henry E. Teich Receives Award

Attorney Henry Teich has been awarded the "Order of Service" by the North Carolina Advocates for Justice.  The award is given to recognize generous contributions of service in advancing the NCJA's mission of protecting people's rights.  It is the third time Henry has received this award.  

Henry is a member of the Board of Governors and a benefactor of the NCAJ. He is also Membership Chair of the Executive Committee of the Workers' Compensation Section of the NCAJ. Henry is a NC Board Certified Workers' Compensation Attorney.

Grimes Teich Anderson is proud to be a sponsor of Helios Warriors, which provides holistic therapies to help reduce chronic physical and emotional pain often suffered by veterans. We honor the service of veteran and GTA attorney Tod Leaven and congratulate him for his work to help veterans through such programs as Helios Warriors and other local veterans organizations including Buncombe County Veterans Treatment Court.

Veterans Matters Addressed in Speech
Attorney Tod Leaven has given a speech at UNC School of Law regarding veterans matters, specifically about the difference between draft-era and post-draft military and veterans relations. He also spoke about the dangers of "fragile/broken hero" veteran stereotypes and how they are promulgated. He related how young lawyers can positively impact recent veterans and veterans organizations.

GTA Attorney is Panelist at Conference
Attorney Jessica Leaven was a panelist for the recent 28th Judicial District Bar’s “Professionalism for New Admittees” program held in Asheville. The 2-day event provided information to new members of the Bar on a range of topics including Organization of a Law Office, Ethics, Attorney/Client relationships and Technology. Jessica and other members of the panel discussed attorney professionalism and the benefit of mentors.

Jessica’s participation in this event comes on the heels of her presentation at the North Carolina Advocates for Justice 2015 Summer Convention where she conducted a Continuing Legal Education Seminar on Employment Law. Later this month she joins two other attorneys in presenting opening remarks at the 31st Annual North Carolina/South Carolina Labor and Employment Law Conference being held in South Carolina.

Jessica recently became the Vice-Chair of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Section.

Attorney Tod Leaven has been appointed to the Noise Ordinance Appeals Board for the City of Asheville.

Attorney Jeff Martin recently spoke at the monthly meeting of the Democratic Women of Greenville, South Carolina where he addressed pending legislation in South Carolina. The title of his talk: “Opposing Opt-out Workers’ Compensation Legislation: A Bipartisan Approach.”

Except for Employment Law Cases, Attorney’s fees are a percentage of the entire recovery and will be deducted before other expenses. In addition to the fee in these cases, Client will be responsible for litigation expenses, which will either be deducted from the recovery or paid by the client. Some Employment Law Cases may be handled on a contingent fee basis and others handled on an hourly basis, where the client is billed for the hours spent on the case.
